Joe Sheean and his brother Ed started fishing together in 1965 and launched the Irish Miss in 1975. Joe's son Mike has often crewed, and now is the land-based operations manager and sales manager for the Pacific Fleet brand. The family's delight in fishing has always been the satisfaction of overcoming the challenges at sea and providing a quality product for people who love eating fish. All Pacific Fleet albacore have been troll-caught and fresh-frozen at sea on the Irish Miss and other reputable, quality-oriented Pacific coast fishing vessels.

At a time when sustainable fisheries, healthy foods, and value are paramount in the minds of consumers, Capt. Joe is proud of his family's participation in the albacore fishery, and the fact that troll-caught albacore was recently given the highest rating by the Audubon Society as a sustainable fishery. Mike and Ed are happy that the mainstay of the business is repeat orders from satisfied customers who spread the word to their family and friends.

Large canneries cook their fish twice for their processing convenience and profit, whereas we cook only once to preserve the healthful omega-3 oils and the delicate albacore flavor. Pacific Fleet is truly a family operation with a love of the fishery and a commitment to quality.

The family chose the name American Tuna Company because their albacore tuna are caught by American fishermen in American waters, delivered to American ports, canned in America, and intended for American consumers. Nevertheless, they do encourage all albacore lovers to purchase their products, regardless of nationality!
